Ready or not, Feasting Season is here! It’s the endless temptation that begins with Halloween candy, continues with Thanksgiving stuffing and pumpkin pie and stretches through Christmas treats and New Year’s toasts.
Holiday feasts can be tough when you have wellness goals you are trying to conquer or maintain. When I decided to get healthy, I did so during the holiday season. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I ate holiday feasts and STILL LOST MORE THAN 20 POUNDS! In addition to using our great products, I tried to follow these Feasting Season survival tips!
Practice Awareness
- Be mindful of what you eat and how much you eat. If you’re having a special treat, keep your portion size in check.
- Don’t treat the next few months as a free-for-all. Allow some treats for special days but then go right back to your healthy lifestyle!
- Get in exercise and movement whenever you can!
Manage Stress and Emotions
- The holidays are stressful for many. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Don’t feel obligated to do everything yourself.
- Learn to say “no” to activities you don’t have time for or to food that doesn’t align with your health goals.
- If you’re dealing with a loss, turn to a friend for comfort instead of food.
- Exercise is a great way to help deal with stress.
Plan in Advance
- Eat a little before you attend a holiday gathering so you’re not feeling as hungry.
- Try to avoid sources of temptation by leaving a room after eating.
- Regift Halloween candy to get it out of the house and make healthy low-carb snacks/desserts instead of traditional Feasting Season candy and goodies.
- Make sure you have plenty of healthy, portable snacks when traveling. For some ideas, download our Low-Carb On-the-Go Guide.
The most important thing is to try to maintain a healthy lifestyle during the Feasting Season to avoid unwanted weight gain. Keep in mind this time of year is about friends and family — not food!
